ABOUT

Larsen Warner is one of the leading contemporary art galleries in Scandinavia. The gallery, in its various guises, has been home to innovative, singular, and pioneering exhibitions across a variety of media and genres over the past 30 years. Active in both the primary and secondary markets, Larsen Warner presents a dynamic exhibition programme of both emerging and established artists from Scandinavia as well as a strong focus on presenting influential and import international artists to a Swedish audience.

KARLAVAGEN

Christian Larsen founded his first gallery in 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden. The inaugural exhibition took place at Christian Larsen’s first gallery, located in the Östermalm district of Stockholm, with work by renowned American artist Sally Mann. Exhibitions with major international and Swedish artists followed including shows by Louise Lawler, Ross Bleckner, William Wegman, Tracey Moffatt, Lynn Davies and Miriam Bäckström’s debut exhibition.

HUDIKSVALSGATAN

In 2007, Christian Larsen moved to a 3,500 sq. feet location in the Stockholm gallery district on Hudiksvallgatan with an exhibition of work by renowned Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno. The gallery continued to forge an ambitious program of exhibitions with both Swedish artists such as Joakim Ojanen, Mårten Medbo, Anton Alvarez, Anna Camner, Karin Broos, Christine Ödlund, Ann-Sofi Sidén, Matti Kallioinen, Charlotte Gyllenhammar and Max Book, and international artists, many of them exhibiting in Sweden for the first time. These include exhibitions by Rose Wylie, Frank Bowling, John Körner, Gavin Turk, Robert Mangold, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sam Samore, Kasper Sonne and Horst P. Horst.

STUREGATAN 28

In September 2019 the gallery relocated to Östermalm near Stockholm city centre. This coincided with an exciting new chapter for the gallery with owner Christian Larsen and director Darren Warner choosing the opening of Sturegatan 28 to foster a closer collaboration, with the gallery name changing to Larsen Warner.

The opening of Larsen Warner at Sturegatan 28 offered a wonderful opportunity for the gallery to reinvigorate a building that historically had played a major part in the artistic life of Stockholm. Pioneering galleriest and artist Lars Gynning opened the legendary Galerie Bleue at Sturegatan 28 in 1964. Galerie Bleue presented a now iconic programme of exhibitions by some of the greatest artists of the 20th Century including Louise Nevelson, Jim Dine, James Rosenquist, Josef Albers, Joan Miró, David Hockney, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein and Sonia Delaunay. In May 1966 Galerie Bleue presented the group exhibition ’11 Pop Artists - The New Image’ featuring Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Mel Ramos amongst others.

Since moving to Sturegatan the gallery has continued to develop and highlight our international exhibition programme with solo exhibitions by important artists such as Marina Adams, Ron Gorchov, Ryan Mosley, Andi Fischer and Takuro Kuwata. As well as solo exhibitions the gallery presents a rigorous programme of curated group exhibitions.
